If you live alone, then you really do not care if you snore like a foghorn, and neither will anyone else. However, if you live with other people that foghorn needs one of the many snoring remedies available on the market today.
Over the years there have been some bizarre solutions for snoring, but there are also many practical and easy to use solutions that are readily available.
One of the more common snoring remedies is nasal spray. Typically used by people with mild snoring problems, the spray opens up their air passages just enough to keep snoring from being an issue. While nasal sprays may not work for everyone, many people with mild snoring problems have had success with them.
The way a nasal spray works is that it lubricates and tightens the muscles around the mouth and throat. With these muscles lubricated and tightened, there is little to no opportunity for the vibration that causes snoring to occur. While nasal sprays do not afford the user a permanent fix for their snoring, they frequently alleviate problems as long as they are being used.
Some snoring problems are temporary, brought on by a change in diet, health or even weather, and nasal sprays can be very useful to help in this type of circumstance.
Many Snoring Remedies are Simply Mechanical
Another one of the more commonly types of snoring remedies is the mechanical solution for snoring. While nasal sprays offer a medical solution to snoring, there is also a while suite of solutions that work externally to help stop the vibration that causes snoring.
Chinstraps and anti snoring pillows all help to keep your chin and mouth properly aligned, and if you breathe through your mouth one of these solutions may work for you.
If you are breathing out of your mouth, and your throat and spine are not aligned properly, you will probably find yourself snoring. By keeping your neck and throat properly aligned you severely reduce the chance of vibration occurring, and that helps reduce or even eliminate snoring.
The other part of the problem that happens when you sleep with your mouth open is that your jaw drops, which may allow your tongue to slightly obstruct your throat. This is the type of misalignment that causes snoring to occur. By keeping your tongue in the proper position in your mouth, again you can reduce of eliminate your snoring problem.
This is where the chinstrap comes in. It holds your jaws together and keeps your mouth closed. While a chinstrap can work, chin cushions and pillows offer the added advantage keeping your head and neck properly aligned, which helps keep your airways unobstructed.
Another very basic solution is to simply tape your mouth shut. While this may be kind of awkward, it has been know to work.
Chin up strips are another snoring remedy. These are tape strips worn below the mouth, and they help to alleviate snoring symptoms by discouraging mouth breathing. However, they do offer the advantage of leaving your mouth free to cough, sneeze or breathe, and this is also their disadvantage. Since it is still possible to breathe through your mouth, you may still experience some snoring symptoms.
All of these snoring solutions are simply different ways to deal with your snoring symptoms. While all of these snoring remedies only work as you are using them, they only offer a temporary solution for your snoring symptoms. To find a permanent solution you may find yourself looking at surgery, and before you go down that road make sure to have a thoughtful conversation with your medical practitioner.
With your doctor’s guidance you can decide if the benefits and risks of surgery are worth it for you, or you may decide that you simply want to continue using one of the many snoring remedies available on the market today.
